Who We Are

Home » About Us » Who We Are

The NWT Intercultural Centre offers settlement services, where we will assess your needs regarding employment, healthcare, housing, education, childcare and more. We can refer you to the appropriate services. We also offer one-on-one or group information sessions on various settlement topics. We also help connect you with the community through activities and events.

Our vision is to create an environment where everyone is welcomed and included. Together, we contribute towards a respectful, safe, and diverse community. Our mission is to help immigrants and newcomers create strong and long-lasting connections within their community by offering programs and services based on their needs.

We are the first point of contact for immigrants and newcomers in Yellowknife and the Northwest Territories. We provide settlement and integration services to help you feel at home in your new community. Our services are:

  • Free
  • Confidential
  • Available in English and French.

We are located in Yellowknife, Northwest Territories (NWT). This is in Akaitcho Territory — the traditional lands of the Wiìliìdeh Yellowknives Dene. We extend our appreciation for the opportunity to live, learn, work, and play on this land and recognize the richness that Indigenous cultures bring to our community.

The services offered at the centre are primarily funded by IRCC.

Our Values

The majority of our services are in place to meet the needs of Permanent Residents and Accepted Refugees. We also offer certain services to: New Canadians, work permit holders and asylum seekers.

Employees are open to new service delivery models that would benefit clients.

We believe that different origins, cultures, languages, genders, and other identity factors are an asset to any community.

Communities play a role in welcoming and helping their residents. Together, we create healthy and strong communities.

We continue to work with different organizations to best meet the needs of everyone who accesses our services.

We respect everyone’s journey, history, culture, and traditions.

We are a legitimate organization that endorses an honest, professional, and welcoming environment.
